Buck Mountain is a small mountain in the Sunshine Coast’s Caren Range. It’s not the highest peak (that’s Spipiyus Peak) but it offers some of the better views in that range. The Caren Range has some of the oldest forests in the world, as described in my other post, but much of the area around Buck Mountain has been logged.
I hiked to Buck Mountain with my dad after visiting Spipiyus Peak. The road was manageable at first, but deteriorated as we got closer to the peak. We parked just after Carlson Creek; you’ll likely need an ATV to get further.
We headed along the FSR for a kilometre or so, then took a shortcut by bushwhacking due north to the peak. This wasn't too bad by BC standards, and bluffs on the way provided nice views.

Like other peaks in this range, the summit is marked with some sort of tower. Clearings provided great views west to the Gulf Islands and north along the Sunshine Coast, including Spipiyus Peak which we'd just visited.

We took the road all the way down instead of repeating our shortcut.

At the car, we realized that if we hustled, we’d reach the lobster roll food truck at Trout Lake before they closed. We just barely made it, but they’d sold all their seafood for the day, so we settled for some grilled cheese sandwiches. We drove back through Sechelt, admiring the cherry blossoms, and made it to the ferry on time.
